Precision enhancement of smartphone sensor-based pavement roughness estimation by standardizing host vehicle speed

Condition assessment of pavement has a predominant part in delivering safety and comfort to users. Roughness is considered the most important characteristic as it affects road vehicle operating costs. Authorities spend significant quantity resources on using conventional methods for measuring roughness. Many researches are performed estimate roughness by deploying smartphone sensors. However, no consideration given influence speed host evaluation smartphones. This work explains sensor-based technique quarter car simulation model. The accuracy checked with simultaneously collected international index (IRI) measured roughometer. Results smartphone-based estimation experiment showed high correlation value 0.73, proved method. data were segregated based three ranges. between roughometer-based IRI all ranges was analyzed, R 2 0.75 exhibited 31–50 km/h range.
